Ablakwa’s GH¢49.7m Evacuation: Oku-Jet-O Meets His Own Audit

By Anonymous · 27 October 2026 · Politics

I write to report that while the nation navigates the daily turbulence of governance, a most delicious piece of political irony has erupted in the high corridors of diplomacy, and it has landed our honourable Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, in very hot water.

Osagyefo, you will recall that in his former life as the undisputed Chief Inspector of Presidential Aviation, this same gentleman could calculate the cost of every chartered presidential flight down to the last pesewa. He knew the price of the bathwater on board, the brand of tea served in the clouds, and the cost of every inch of airborne legroom. Armed with his spreadsheets, he served us hot accountability every single week.

Yet today, now that he is the minister in charge, the grand master of arithmetic has handed us a legendary mess with his own paperwork for the GH¢49.7 million South Africa evacuation exercise. Within hours of the documents going public, keen-eyed analysts were combing through them and serving the findings up to the nation like a fresh plate of spicy party jollof.

The documents are a marvel of administrative comedy. Critics have pointed to duplicate names, identical signatures for different people, matching handwriting, missing signatures, mismatched records, and dates of birth set somewhere in the distant future. Some evacuees have even gone on air to say the numbers do not add up, claiming that the less literate among them received less than they were promised.

And suddenly, the detailed flight manifests and chartered jet costs, the very things he once demanded with holy crusading zeal, have become matters too sensitive to be casually discussed.

The comedy reached its peak when the ministry, having handed evacuees a GH¢5,500 reintegration allowance, brought a select group to Accra for a press conference. There they stood before the cameras and told the entire nation that they were “disturbed by the noise around the evacuation and the accountability debate.”

Osagyefo, imagine the audacity! The struggling roadside seller, battling inflation, watches people who were flown home on state funds and handed cash allowances now tell the taxpaying public that they are “disturbed” by calls for accountability.

And let us not forget, Osagyefo, that this is the same man who proudly led ORAL, Operation Recover All Loot, promising to chase down every stolen cedi in the land. Yet now that the spotlight is on his own books, the chairman of ORAL is suddenly afraid of a little Thrush! It seems ORAL was only ever meant to treat other people’s mouths, never his own.

Meanwhile, Osagyefo, the selective comfort of this administration extends well beyond the Foreign Ministry. As we speak, Zakaria Abdulai, the former NDC constituency secretary and suspended headmaster of Obuasi SHTS, is by all accounts free to enjoy his banku at a local joint in Obuasi. The young girls who accuse him of rape and abuse, meanwhile, are left to struggle with the emotional wreckage. He eats in peace while they carry the weight.

It appears that in this Republic, accountability is a dish served only to the opposition. Tracking every drop of water on a chartered plane is a sacred duty when you are out of power, but once you hold the keys to office, questions about missing millions and the safety of our daughters are dismissed as unhelpful noise.

So long,
