No Eclipse Required

I want to talk to you about Katakyie Dr. Emmanuel Opoku AH69, though around here I mostly think of him as "the guy who actually showed up to the meetings." During his time as Vice President and President of Akatakyie USA, he and a lot of dedicated Akatakyie strengthened our governance, expanded member engagement, and built programs meant to outlast any single administration: constitutional accountability, open town halls, financial reports you could actually read, successful reunions in Atlanta and Chicago, and new chapters sprouting in Carolina, Ohio, and out west. Under his leadership we championed the OWASS Endowment Fund, co-chaired its first virtual fundraising campaign, and left behind two legacies you can still touch on campus, the OWASS Multipurpose Courts and Akatakyie USA Boulevard, both built by many hands, not by anyone's personal press release.
I bring this up not for nostalgia, but because of what I've been watching unfold lately, and Osagyefo, it has had the distinct flavor of an eclipse: a carefully staged darkening where everyone is told to look up and admire the "new vision" while, conveniently, no one can quite see what's happening on the ground. Meetings have been held without anything resembling a quorum. Decisions have been made by what I can only describe as a very confident committee of vibes. We have drifted, gently but unmistakably, toward chaos dressed up as progress, and something that increasingly resembles a constitutional crisis with better lighting.
Funny, too, how faces we haven't seen at a single town hall in years have rediscovered their deep, abiding love for Akatakyie USA the moment ballots entered the conversation. I don't begrudge anyone a comeback story, Osagyefo, I just prefer mine to include actual attendance. And speaking of new faces, Osagyefo, where exactly are all these new members joining from these days? I'd love to know.
This is why I, and a lot of others, have been asking Dr. Opoku to step forward again, to help lift the face of Akatakyie USA back to where it belongs, ideally without the eclipse filter. I know I don't speak for him, but I know what I've seen: a leader who built with all of us the old-fashioned way, on constitutional governance, real accountability, and genuine commitment to OWASS and to each other. Not shortcuts. Not membership drives that mysteriously spike every four years like clockwork. The guy who has been the school prefect and has held multiple positions in the association is clearly prepared to return to lead.
The record is proven, Osagyefo. The vision continues, no eclipse required. I, for one, am rooting for daylight, and for a man who knows that in a school where numbers matter, every member deserves to be counted properly, not conveniently. He is the right man to lead. The man for the school, the man for Akatakyie.
